The
Synod of The Apostolic See of St Maximus
The Theologian exists to serve the people
of God in the Church by assisting the
Primate of The See in Church matters,
as specified:
- The
Primate's position is absolute and until
death.
-
The Synod will attend an annual review
meeting on its working relation with
the Office of the Primate. The meeting
shall be presided over by the Primate.
- The
Synod's members shall not interfere
in any matter within the jurisdiction
of a local, district (in-country), or
regional (in-country) incumbent or body,
unless when invited by the incumbent
or the responsible body - and except
when a matter of grave importance has
been referred to The Synod by the Primate.
- The
Synod will be a permanent institution
in the life of The See, and shall serve
as the Governing Council of The See.
Its membership will reflect the global
spread of The See, and will be made
of bishops, other clergy and distinguished
individuals of the laity on the recommendation
of the Primate.
- Ten
(10) members of The Synod shall be appointed
by the Primate. Additional members shall
be nominated by members of The See,
and approved by both The Synod and the
Primate. Three members shall by appointed
as life members of The Synod, and one
of them shall chair a Synod meeting
(except at special sessions designated
to be chaired by the Primate).
- Each
member of The Synod shall serve a maximum
term of 5 years. A minimum of thirteen
(13) members of The Synod, including
one of the life members, shall be present
at a Synod meeting to conduct the business
of The Synod.
- The
Synod shall, in consultation with the
Primate, call the national, trans-national
and global members together to events
(e.g. episcopal or revival conferences)
or for sessions (e.g. consultation or
visits) as it sees fit. It may devolve
some of its responsibilities in specific
countries (or group of countries) to
representative bodies with specific
guidelines, or incumbents with specific
limits.
- The
Synod and the Primate shall approve
nominations for each bishopric, subject
to references. The Synod shall then
process the necessary arrangements for
the consecration which shall be presided
over by the Primate.
- The
Synod and the Primate shall make the
rules for the priestly orders established
under The Apostolic See of St. Maximus
The Theologian. An established bishopric
and other priestly orders of The Apostolic
See shall subscribe to annual financial
and other resources' contributions to
The See, as determined by the Office
of the Primate.
- The
Synod shall conduct its business as
a religious assembly at which members
will have the opportunity to interact
with each other and share information
and experiences, in the common pursuit
of pastoral and spiritual solutions
in matters which are important for the
continuous running of The See.
The
Primate prays God's rich blessings upon
the work of The Synod, in all the mercies
of God.
May
The Lord particularly grant members of
The Synod wisdom and long life to see
the goodness of God upon their service
to His Church.

Please note :
The
word 'SYNOD' was derived from two Greek
words: syn meaning 'together' and hodos
meaning 'road' or 'way'. The word SYNOD
therefore means a coming together.
