Emerging Regional Bishoprics

ACGB BISHOPRIC IN THE MIDLANDS

Introduction

The ACGB Bishopric for the Midlands would be based in Birmingham. Its primary purpose would be to support the work of Christ currently being done through congregations and other Church leaders, and also to engage society at large in the context of the spiritual, social, and economic regeneration of the Midlands. In doing these, the bishopric will face the prophetic challenges of promoting community care and community support as well as the prophetic challenges of building dialogue with other Faiths in the region

Overview of The Midlands

The Midlands are divided into two sections, which are East and West Midlands. The total population is 10,067,000 according to the 2001 census.

The West Midlands consist of Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Birmingham.

The East Midlands also consist of Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Rutland UA, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire.

The largest urban area is in the West Midlands, consisting of a population of around 2,284,000 people. This urban area covers Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Dudley and Solihull. It also reaches into parts of neighbouring counties such as Coleshill in Warwickshire and Hagley in Worcestershire. This is the largest urban area in the UK after the Greater London urban area.
