27th September and Monday 8th November 1999
Introduction
An
earlier travel
I did make an earlier visit to Ghana
in August for only eight days, leaving
on Wednesday 17th August and returning
on the 25th night.
I
discovered in Ghana that the Church
provides the spiritual and educational
impetus for enhancing the social,
educational, industrial, and professional
life of the people and the cities/capitals
as well.
That
bears strongly on the nation's capacity
development generally. I found that Ghanaian
Churches are on the way of becoming catalysts
of modernisation for Ghana and other parts
of Africa. They are challenging the people
and the economy to get ready for market
realities and development innovations.
This trip was a follow-up on the August
travel.
The
latest Trip
I travelled to Ghana with British Airways
flights, leaving Gatwick on Monday 27th
September and returning on Monday 8th
November.
The
core purpose of these travels was to bring
the experiences of my bishopric and the
above Institute particularly in the areas
of community development to support community-based
development initiatives in Ghana - and
where possible assist to direct the outcomes
towards further opportunities. In doing
this, the visit was also exploring and
shaping the future involvement of both
Institute for Community and Development
Studies and the bishopric in the Ghana's
economic development and social transformation.
This
second trip however concentrated on two
capitals, Kumasi and Sunayni.
