leaders to develop communities (report

India )
Introduction
The
Right Reverend Henry Kontor, executive
director of the Institute of Community
and Development Studies, UK was in New
Delhi in May 2003. It was in the course
of his efforts to introduce his insights
in community and development programmes
to the Christian community in the Delhi
capital and region. He was scheduled
to meet several leaders with whom he
could work to accelerate development
work and to foster social enterprise
activities. He upheld the view that
wherever the Christian message had transformed
individuals, they had also in turn manifested
Christ in their concern for the community.
Metropolitan
Henry, in an interview with the editor
of Christian Today India, recalled that
the Church has been in the forefront
in carrying our social welfare programmes.
He referred to the Book of Acts of the
Bible (as a basis), where there is frequent
mention of believers providing for the
needs of the weak and poor, particularly
widows and orphans.
