Pastoral Care in Community Setting

Aim:

To relate pastoral and community care as a unified ministry.

Objective

* Know some of the resources available for community care;

* Understand the principal of pastoral and community care;

* Be able to recognise and analyse community and personal problems arising in urban communities.

* Be able to embark on a plan of action in a given setting.

Content:

To analyse problems people in urban communities face in a selected country and examine the sources of support and advice for self help. Existing mechanisms for community care: social services. Community health; effects of Community Care Act in UK; and of market philosophies with users and providers. The 'embedded' approach to ministry: being present among people; listening to their needs; expressing the gospel in familiar vernacular terms; empowerment of communities by 'hands off' style leadership; rebuilding faith and priorities as the fuel for development. a study of examples of this approach. Base communities and networks as key pastoral tools. Experiencing the work of God in daily life, and reflecting on God's work in urban life.
