The
Landscape |
 |
| |
|
|
The
world we live in is fast urbanising; and the population
of each city is fast becoming multi-national and
global. Formerly, the cities lived in the nations.
Now the nations live in the cities.
To
think local, is also to think both multi-national
and global.
In
a multi-national and market-driven environment,
poverty is often seen as a sub-culture, but not
necessary an issue of injustice.
|
|
Under
this position, poverty reduction schemes are designed
primarily to deal with the causalities of the market,
and not necessarily to promote a common economic development
foundation for everyone.
Programmes
for sustainable development and capital growth that
also aim at poverty alleviation/reduction in particular
contexts may have to consider seriously these considerations.
We live in both modern and post-modern world, and we
work in a world that is both local and multi-national.
The environment also is largely market-driven.
These
underpin the tasks and the depths of our Consultations.
In general, our Consultations will be
- identifying
practical tools for sustainable development, which
are efficient within cultures but also meet current
market realities
- challenging
ground-level practitioners from the Faith,
Education, and Development
sectors to achieve sustainable development programmes
in market-driven situations.
